Hot flashes are a common symptom which is been seen by a large percentage of women between the ages of 45 and 55. Hot flashes are experienced by more than half of all women during menopause. Studies realeased in March 2009 indicated that women experiencing hot flashes well into the post-menopause, are still experiencing these symptoms as it is the body's correlative response to women who suffer from high blood pressure and clogged up arteries from cholesterol and calcium. It was not conclude that this heart conditions were caused by hot flashes and scientists are yet to understand the connection between hot flashes and heart conditions.
Doctors do not have any hopes or believes that estrogen treatment will solve these cardiac conditions, but might actually clog up or alter arteries that are already at risk during later stages in the sufferer's life.
What is the best treatment?
Doctors believe that the best treatment for heart diseases as well as the hot flashes is exercise.
The test and conclusion
A recent study broke 164 women in their 50s up, all experiencing hot flashes, into three groups of varying exercise groups: walkers, yoga-doers, and sloth-like non-exercisers. The study lasted four months, and by the end, "We found a significant association between changes in cardiorespiratory fitness and changes in menopausal symptoms [such as hot flashes]," said Penn State kinesiologist Steriani Elavsky, who conducted the study. "Women who experienced decreases in menopausal symptoms in the study also experienced improvements in all positive mental health and quality-of-life outcomes."
